In the Vitebsk region, more than 300 thousand rubles have been allocated for the fight against invasive plants this year
In the Vitebsk region, more than 300 thousand rubles have been allocated from the budget for the current year to combat invasive plants - Sosnovsky's hogweed and Canadian goldenrod.
The occupation of new areas by hogweed causes headaches for business executives and environmentalists. Despite the measures taken (use of herbicides, plowing, mowing), the contaminated lands have grown by four hectares and amount to more than 600 hectares. This indicates insufficient work of land users and the effectiveness of means of combating the poisonous weed, notes the head of the Vitebsk City District Inspectorate of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Sergei Lazuko. Half of the contaminated land is agricultural.
Another week and the hogweed will begin to grow, say environmentalists. It is necessary to take timely measures to prevent its spread, otherwise even herbicides will not help. Based on the results of inspections, land users were issued 101 instructions for hogweed and 48 for goldenrod. Failure to comply with requirements will result in a fine.
Last year, environmentalists of the city district inspectorate brought 17 officials to administrative responsibility, who paid 5.6 thousand rubles. in the form of a fine.
