Early on a May morning, on the outskirts of the village of Pozhartsy, Postavy district, Oleg Khonyavko and his wife Nina found a calf.

The animal got wet from the night rain and could no longer walk. After looking around and making sure that the mother of the foundling was not nearby, people contacted the Postavy District Inspectorate of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. Environmentalists and a veterinarian went to the site. A visual inspection showed that the calf was 7–9 days old, had no visible injuries, and was slightly malnourished. The baby required special care and feeding; he was given sweetened boiled water and taken out to warm up in the sun. Ecologists took prompt measures to determine the further fate of the animal. The Kestrel Bird and Animal Help Center, located in the village of Losi, Molodechno district, Minsk region, immediately responded. An organization unique to Belarus helps injured and weakened animals from the wild - it treats, rehabilitates and returns them to their natural habitat. Already by lunchtime, the center’s volunteers arrived and took the elk calf to an environmental institution, where the foundling was given the necessary assistance. Photos from open sources.
